Welcoming Gus Gordon

Why did you join Command AI?

I like that Command AI is simple on the surface, as I think that simplicity can breed underlying complexity and opportunity. The flexibility of the product presents interesting challenges, as it should respond to anything that users type in. After using Command AI, I was hooked and knew this company would be a great fit for me.

What are you most excited about in your new role?

I’m most excited to be on such a dynamic team that serves so many users on large sites. I’ll have the chance to positively impact a lot of users while still working with a small team at Command AI.

What did you do before Command AI?

Before I joined Command AI, I was a software engineer and a product manager at a crowd-sourced hedge fund. It was a platform where people could write stock trading strategies in Python. We would pick the best strategies, put institutional capital behind them, and profit share with the authors. After the company was bought by Robinhood, I saw the opportunity with Command AI.

What do you like to do with your free time?

In my free time I like to hang out on lakes in New Hampshire, travel, and build software. And I’m into aquariums and fish — I have a bunch of aquatic plants, and a betta fish named Elmer.

What is a fun fact about you?

I consider myself a generalist, but I’m into electric aircraft. Even though I'm not an aeronautical engineer, I really enjoy the physics of batteries and aviation, and I occasionally learn about them in my free time.

What’s the most unusual or interesting job that you’ve had?

One summer when I was in high school, I was hired by a large office building in Boston that had maybe 30 floors. I was in charge of painting for this huge building, and I basically repainted its walls full-time with minimal supervision. Pretty interesting experience!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I was hoping to join a small team and grow with the company, so now that I’ve joined Command AI, I’m hoping to do exactly that — be a positive force within the company, and as the whole pie is growing, grow my slice. I’m also looking forward to joining the rest of the team in San Francisco soon!
